RHOS Male Voice Choir got St David’s Day celebrations underway early this week with a concert at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

The February 24th performance in the college’s concert hall was as guests of the Manchester Welsh Society, along with another Rhos choir – Ger y Ffin – and talented students from the college.

Assistant musical director Kevin Whitley paid tribute to both choirs’ performance  - which ended with a rousing rendition of Calon Lân and Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (pictured).

Kevin said: “It was a great honour to be asked to take part in the Manchester Welsh Society’s annual St David’s Day concert, and to get a flavour of some of the very talented young people studying at the RNCM.”

As well as the two choirs, the audience enjoyed contributions from Welsh tenor Ryan Davies, a student at the college, and 22 year old pianist Iwan Owen from Anglesey.

Chinese students Aaron Ma and Shimeng Sun performed John Thomas’s Scenes of Childhood together on the Welsh harp.
