John Tudor Davies MBE

Honorary Life President

Most of the people who have ever visited a Rhos Male Voice Choir concert have heard or even witnessed at first hand the enormous valuable contribution John Tudor Davies has made to the musical tradition of not only his locality, but of Wales as a whole. His acheivements in music seem neverending, but he is most particularly remembered for the following:

We believe, however, that his greatest success has been his association with the Rhos Male Voice Choir. As a member of well over 40 years, he has been a Chorister, Accompanist, and Deputy Musical Director before becoming Musical Director five years before his retirement. He has been most influential in the Choirs competition success in the National Eisteddfod and when they became BBC Wales "Choir of the Year" two years in succession.

As Musical Director, he led the Choir to further victories in the HTV Choral competition. His arrangements, transcriptions and editting of works including Verdi, Greig, Bruckner, folksongs and songs from the shows have appeared frequently in the Choir's repertoire. The very popular "Gwahoddiad", "Tui Egeo" and "Sara" are heard on the Television and radio as well as in Chapels and Concert Halls all over Wales. He has accompanied the Choir on many American and European Concert Tours and has appeared with them on stage at The Royal Command Performance and many other prestigious venues.

Since retiring as Musical Director, he has been made an Honorary Life President of the Choir and Choir Members feel he deserves his award of the MBE. It brings great honour on the choir as he has served so faithfully and we congratulate him wholeheartedly.
